Cell Stem Cell named 'Best New Journal' of 2007
New Cell Press journal tapped for prestigious publishing award
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., USA (February 7, 2008) After just seven months in
print, Cell Stem Cell, a Cell Press journal, has been named the "2007
Best New Journal - Science, Technology & Medicine," by the
Professional and Scholarly Publishing Division (PSP) of the
Association of American Publishers (AAP).
This honor, which is among the Association of American Publishers'
2007 Awards for Excellence, comes less than a year after Cell Stem
Cell published its first issue in July 2007.
Cell Stem Cell will be awarded this distinction today during the
Association of American Publishers' PSP Annual Conference in
Washington, DC.
"I am delighted that Cell Stem Cell has received this award," said
Deborah Sweet, Editor of Cell Stem Cell. "We are very excited about
the strongly positive reception Cell Stem Cell has received from the
scientific community, within the stem cell field, and beyond, and we
are honored that the Association of American Publishers has chosen to
recognize the journal's contributions to scientific discourse in this
way."
Cell Stem Cell covers the entire range of the burgeoning stem cell
field, from basic cellular mechanisms to therapeutic applications. In
addition to high-quality, original research articles, each issue
contains a broad range of review and discussion material, including
scientific reviews, social and research commentaries, profiles of
prominent people and institutions, and reviews of external meetings
and resources.
""We are thrilled to win this recognition of our contribution to the
stem cell field from our publishing colleagues," said Lynne Herndon,
President and CEO of Cell Press.
Cell Stem Cell is the official affiliated journal of the
International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR), the predominant
society in the field. This exclusive mutual support agreement is an
unprecedented arrangement for a Cell Press journal. Cell Stem Cell is
run independently by in-house editors, but each issue of the journal
includes a section of content contributed by the society.
"In what seems like an instant, Cell Stem Cell has established itself
as the leading journal in the exploding field of stem cell biology,"
said ISSCR president, Dr. George Daley, of Boston's Children's
Hospital. "It is a privilege for the ISSCR to be officially
associated with a journal of such high standards."
